In 2008, a treasure hunter named Mike DeMar was driving off the key west where his metal detecting gear came across a strong signal. Upon further digging, he discovered what appeared to be a golden chalice. After getting it cleaned, he realised it was made out of actual gold and came from the Spanish ship Santa Margarita.

Finger Ring:
This is one of the most bizarre metal detecting finds. A guy named Peter Berthelot was out on a beach in Kent when he found his first bone ring! It’s assumed that Richard actually lost two fingers during the battle and this ring was found to be a perfect fit for his left hand.

In 1715, a Spanish galleon named Nuestra Señora de las Mercedes sank off the coast of Portugal. After spending years trying to locate the galleon, a team from Florida finally found something in 2015 – an old lead box covered in barnacles.
Upon further inspection, the box contained a treasure map which was dated 1744 and showed detailed locations of where to find the galleon. Although we do not know whether there is any gold left on board, this metal detecting find proves that it’s always worth checking out!
A Two Pound Meteor:
While metal detecting in 2009, David de Rothschild discovered a meteor that weighed two pounds. He was actually looking for his wedding ring which he had lost while swimming in the sea when he found this piece of space rock instead!
