Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting, you can do a few things to get prepared and be ready to take home the trophy. The tips below will help you win the bee and go to the county and state competitions. Successful spellers can think quickly and clearly, and spell words correctly on the first try. Practice makes men perfect, so be sure to get in a lot of practice. The more you regularly practice your spelling, the better you’ll become.

Below are the essential tips to help you get prepared for the 6th grade spelling words.

1. Know the Rules

The rules are pretty simple. The speller who has the most points after three rounds wins, with each round consisting of a single word chosen by a different judge. The first round is worth two points, the second round is worth five points, and the third and final round is worth ten points. If your child does not win a single point in any of their rounds, they automatically lose.

2. Read Your Child’s Book Beforehand

Reading your child’s book beforehand will give them some practice at memorizing words and help them get used to the pace at which spelling bee word list. When you get there, you won’t have to worry about your child being overwhelmed or frustrated by how fast everything is moving along. It’s also helpful to make sure that your child understands the game’s rules before going to play!

3. Have Fun!

Remember, these are spelling bees, and they’re meant to be fun! Try to do something and keep that in mind as you play, and don’t stress out too much. If you and your child are happy to enjoy the experience, it will be a success.

4. Don’t Worry About Winning Points for Writing Practice

If your child writes on their spelling bee papers, they may want to keep the paper. However, if they do not write anything on their papers, there is no reason to worry about winning points for writing practice. Instead of “juggling” their papers or remembering what they wrote, just focus on improving their spelling skills in general rather than staying focused on the points that writing practice would earn them.

5. Don’t Focus On Scoring Points At The Spelling Bee – Focus On Improving Spelling Skills In General!

Your child should be focusing on getting points if they are interested in winning the spelling bee. If your child is not interested in winning the spelling bee, then there is no reason to focus on getting points. Instead, focus on improving your child’s spelling skills by having them practice their spelling words daily outside of class and at home.

6. Get An Official Spelling Bee Book

You will need an official spelling bee book to play the spelling bee. You can find these on Amazon or at your local bookstore. Make sure that the book is for children ages five and up!

7. Get Some Official Spelling Bee Paper for Your Child

Spelling bees use a special paper with a “bubble” on it that holds their name when it is time to spell a word. You will need this paper, so make sure you have enough on hand so that your child does not wait too long to participate in the spelling bee. You can find these here: Spelling Bee Paper. Once you have this paper, you are ready to go!

8. Have Your Child Practice Spelling Words Outside of Class & At Home Daily!

Your child will need to practice spelling words outside of class and at home daily. This is critical for their success in the spelling bee. If they do not practice regularly, they will not be able to spell the words correctly when it comes time to spell them during the spelling bee.

9. Have Your Child Practice Spelling Words Before Playing The Spelling Bee!

Before your child plays the spelling bee, make sure they get a chance to practice their spelling words regularly online through spell quiz to be ready for the competition! This is especially true if your child has never played in a spelling bee before or if they have only played once or twice before. You should encourage your child to practice their words at least two or three times before playing in a spelling bee so that they are ready when it comes time for them to spell those words! If you do this, you will see an improvement in your child’s performance during the actual competition!

10. Have Your Child Practice With A Friend!

If you have a friend who is also interested in playing the spelling bee, then invite them to play with your child to practice spelling words together. This will help your child get used to the competition, and it will help them get used to having someone else there to spell with them! You can also ask a sibling to play with your child if you have a sibling that is also interested in playing the spelling bee!
